About Us
Brightly Farms started from Larry Brightly’s love of farming! Larry Share Cropped with the Timmerman’s when he returned from serving his country in World War II. Then, after starting his family, he realized he could not support them as a Share Cropper. He decided to go to work for Kodak while still keeping his poultry farm going with the help of his wife, Bernice, and their five children. Larry purchased the land across the road from the family homestead; 80 acres of open ground and 40 acres of woods.
After Graduating High school, Larry’s son Dean was deciding what career to pursue. He thought about the work he had done on neighboring farms as well as his family’s poultry farm. This helped him in his decision of continuing on with agriculture. Dean’s mother and father chipped in and helped him purchase some used farm equipment and Dean purchased the 60 acres of land behind the family home, the business continued to grow and is now farming over 2,000 acres.
Dean’s sons Joe and Paul have joined the business and have decided to make this their career as well. Joe Brightly got into the family business after graduating from Cornell University in 2011 with a degree in Ag Science. Paul Brightly joined in after Graduating from The University of West Virginia with a Bachelor’s degree in Ag Business and a minor in Horticulture in 2014. Their education is providing the business with the latest in farming techniques which will help the farm to be more efficient.
Dean’s wife Betsy has long history of working with fresh fruits and vegetables as her mother and father were third generation farmers and shared the same passion of farming. She is the force behind a new business venture of a farm market which will sell our Fresh Fruits, Vegetables, Homemade Pies, Jams, Jellies, American made Crafts, Amish furniture and Ice Cream.
The Brightly’s strive to provide great products and services to all of their customers whether they be a neighbor or located across state lines. Brightly Farms now services customers in 7 different states on the east coast and is still continuing to grow. In 2014 we became Global GAP certified for our Apples in 2014, Cabbage in 2015 and Squash in 2016. We Are “Growing for a Brighter Future”!
